Spoiler Warning ⚠

Takemichi as a crying adult

#10: Takemichi is brutally beaten with a baseball bat

Takemichi returns to the past for the second time in "Resist" and is immediately thrown into the mouth of the wolf. After being knocked out too quickly in the ring by Kiyomasa, Takemichi is defeated by Kiyomasa and his gang. After the beating, Takemichi notices who Kiyomasa is and demands to be introduced to Toman's leader.

Annoyed by Takemichi's bold request, he brutally hits him with a baseball bat, causing Takemichi to wonder if he is capable of saving Hina. This moment confirms how helpless and alone he is.

#9: Takemichi realizes he failed to protect Draken.

During a moment of passion with Hina, Takemichi receives a call from Yamagishi regarding Toman's internal conflict. Yamagishi tells Takemichi that several members of Toman are unhappy with Draken and Mikey reconciling. Takemichi, alarmed by this revelation, realizes that Draken may still be in great danger and sets out to find him.

Along the way, Takemichi encounters Kiyomasa and his gang. When he asks Kiyomasa why he is trying to kill Draken, he and the rest of the gang beat him up and leave him tied up in the rain. Shortly after, Hina finds Takemichi, who bursts into tears because he failed. Although Hina comforts him, it's hard to see Takemichi in such a helpless state.

#8: Takemichi's traumatic middle school past is revealed.

Tokyo Revengers wastes no time in introducing fans to the dark events that await its protagonist, Takemichi. After learning that his college ex-girlfriend, Hina, and her brother, Naoto, were killed in a gang dispute, the 26-year-old loner is pushed in front of an oncoming train. However, instead of dying, Takemichi finds himself thrown 12 years into the past.

From there, Takemichi and his friends are badly beaten by Kioymasa and his gang, and Takemichi is forced to remember how terrible those times were for him. The first episode of the series really sets the stage for an inauspicious time.

#7: Takemichi sees Kazutora stab Baji

As the battle between Toman and Valhalla rages on, Takemichi wraps his arms around Baji's waist in hopes of protecting him from impending doom. Baji tries to free himself to no avail before Kazutora knocks everyone out by stabbing him in the back with a knife.

In a surprising moment, not only does Kazutora betray Baji, the person who has supported him all along, but Takemichi ends up being the reason Baji was stabbed in the first place. For all his troubles, Takemichi is forced to witness yet another traumatic event unfold before his eyes. This time, he is largely responsible.

Takemichi in flames and in tears

6: Pah is ruthlessly defeated by Osanai

After Pah is determined to avenge his friend after learning that Moebius leader Osanai beat up his friend and forced him to watch Osanai assault his girlfriend. Unfortunately, when Toman and Moebius finally come face to face, Pah is badly beaten by Osanai as the other members of Toman look on. Mikey steps in and knocks Osanai down, embarrassing him in front of Moebius.

Furious, Osanai attempts to stab Mikey but Draken stops him. Pah takes the opportunity to stab Osanai instead, much to everyone's surprise. Eventually, Pah is arrested by the Police while the rest of Toman and Moebius escape. This event led to an internal conflict that nearly tore Le Toman apart.

#5: Toman's troubled past is revealed

In a flashback episode, Kazutora hatches a plan to steal the bike Mikey wants to give her for her upcoming birthday. Baji, who is accompanying Kazutora, tells him that Mikey won't be happy with him stealing it. Kazutora remains adamant, however, explaining that he has no intention of telling Mikey how they got the bike.

Later that night, they break into the bike shop, but Baji is soon confronted by the shop owner, Shinichiro, Mikey's older brother. Kazutora sees what is happening and acts rashly, hitting Shinichiro in the head with an iron bar. This incident kills Mikey's brother and changes the Toman forever.

#4: Akkun confesses that he tried to kill Takemichi

Takemichi returns to the present and learns that a friend of his, Akkun, is now part of the upper echelon of the Tokyo Manji Gang. After finding Akkun's old number, Takemichi calls him to arrange a meeting at the hostess bar that Akkun now runs. When Takemichi and Akkun reunite, Akkun asks them to talk on the roof.

There, he reveals to Takemichi that he tried to kill him at the train station on orders from Kisaki Tetta, the leader of Toman. Akkun then throws himself into death under the incredulous gaze of Takemichi. This event immediately raises the stakes and makes it clear that Takemichi has his work cut out for him.

#3: Baji stabs himself to stop Mikey

After stabbing Baji and being brutally beaten by Mikey, Kazutora realizes Baji was the only person he could rely on. Baji worries about Kazutora's well-being and calls Mikey to stop before gathering enough strength to walk towards his downed friend.

Baji tells Kazutora that he won't die by his hand, then he pulls out a knife and sticks it in his stomach, much to the amazement and horror of the rest of Toman. Soon after, in one of the series' most heartbreaking moments, Baji dies in Chifuyu's arms.

#2: Kisaki shoots Takemichi

Takemichi returns to the present after the battle between Toman and Valhalla and learns that he is now the main enforcer of the Tokyo Manji Gang. Takemichi and Chifuyu later attend a Toman meeting held by the upper echelon where Takemichi finds out that Kisaki is the leader of the gang. Kisaki lures Takemichi and Chifuyu into a private room and shoots Chifuyu in the head for being a traitor.

Moments later, he shoots Takemichi in the leg, then raises the gun to his head. As the episode fades away, a gunshot rings out, leaving viewers in the dark about Takemichi's fate. After all he's been through, Takemichi finds himself in a present still plagued by pain from which he desperately seeks to escape.

#1: Takemichi Helplessly Witnesses Hina's Death

Takemichi returns to the present after saving Draken, convinced he has changed for the better. He finds Naoto in a present where Hina is still alive and visits him. While the two of them are alone, Hina actually declares her love to Takemichi, taking him by surprise. Takemichi calms down in a public restroom as Hina returns to Naoto's car which is hit by a vehicle driven by Akkun.

Takemichi rushes to the scene and sees Akkun briefly before his car explodes, then rushes to Naoto's vehicle where Hina is trapped under twisted metal. Takemichi rushes to confess his love for Hina moments before the car explodes, killing her, and making "Revenge" the most traumatic episode of Tokyo Revengers' first season.

Conclusion: Full of hardships both for Takemichi and for the viewer watching the series: this first season full of twists and sadness for some episodes will resonate for you like a bitter but pleasant nostalgia once the season is over.
