Tokyo Revengers is a time travel anime that is full of shocking scenes. Takemichi's mission to save Hinata won't be easy.
Spoiler Warning ⚠
Here is an article to explain to you why Tokyo Revengers is not an anime to watch for children and only to read after having seen the series or read the volumes of the manga.
At first, Takemichi's mission is to rescue his childhood sweetheart, Hinata. However. He soon realizes that saving just one person is a lot harder than he thought. There are many shocking moments throughout the series, as Takemichi attempts to unravel the web of people and events that lead Toman down a dark path of destruction.
#10: When Takemichi is pushed in front of a train
At 26, Takemichi leads a rather mundane life. He has a dead-end job and seems to be a bit of a hick. One day, while watching the news, he learns that his middle school girlfriend, Hinata Tachibana, was killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang.
This news shakes Takemichi and he thinks of her while going about his usual business. While waiting for the train, Takemichi is suddenly pushed onto the tracks. But instead of dying, he is transported 12 years in the past.
N°9: When Akkun asks Takemichi to save everyone
Naoto, Hinata's brother, and Takemichi work together to stop the Tokyo Manji Gang from going evil in hopes of saving Hinata. To achieve this, Takemichi must prevent Mikey from meeting Kisaki, as it is the latter's influence that is leading him down a wrong path.
After a few trips to the past, Takemichi doesn't believe that the Mikey he met would lead a gang that would kill. Takemichi and Naoto visit Akkun, Takemichi's childhood friend, to find out more about Kisaki and Mikey. During the visit, Akkun reveals that he pushed Takemichi in front of the train on Kisaki's orders. Akkun suspects Takemichi of being able to time travel and asks him to save everyone before he jumps off a building.
N°8: When Hinata slaps Mikey in the face
Takemichi catches Mikey's attention when the Toman leader shows up to dismantle Kiyomasa's ring. Mikey asks for Takemichi's name and remarks that as of now the two are friends. The next day, Mikey shows up at Takemichi's school.
Hinata sees Takemichi talking to Mikey and Draken and mistakes them for bullies. She approaches Mikey and slaps him, to everyone's surprise. She scolds Mikey and tells him that if he and Draken are the cause of Takemichi's beating, she will protect Takemichi.
#7: When Draken is stabbed and the ambulance takes forever
In the present, Takemichi learns that Mikey has changed after Draken's death, as he no longer had anyone to watch over him. Naoto tells Takemichi that Draken died during the August 3 festival, and Takemichi's new goal is to keep Draken alive.
Unfortunately, Takemichi can't stop Draken from getting stabbed by Kiyomasa. Draken is seriously injured when Takemichi finds him, so he focuses on surviving until the ambulance arrives. While waiting for the ambulance, Kiyomasa and his gang arrive to finish the job.
#6: When Hinata is killed again in the new timeline
After working so hard in the past to not only alter events but to change himself for the better, Takemichi arrives in a present where everything seems to have worked out. Akkun has fulfilled her dream of becoming a hairdresser and Hinata is alive.
Takemichi reunites with Hinata and the two go for a drive to reunite. However, the evening takes a turn when a vehicle crashes into the car where Hinata is waiting for Takemichi. Takemichi not only has to watch Hinata die, but also his friend Akkun, who is driving the other vehicle.
No. 5: When Baji leaves Toman to join Valhalla with Kazutora
After Kazutora's release, Baji announces his intention to leave Toman to join Valhalla. He publicly states that he now views Toman as an enemy. To prove his loyalty to Valhalla, Baji defeats his closest friend, Chifuyu.
His departure is sudden and shocking, especially for Takemichi. When Baji shows up alongside Valhalla in the Battle of Bloody Halloween, it seems like he's firmly cemented his place within Valhalla and is no longer Toman's friend.
#4: When Mikey Promotes Kisaki to Third Division Captain
With Pah gone, Toman must appoint a new Third Division captain. As the members gather, the new Third Division captain is asked to introduce himself and none other than Kisaki emerges from the crowd.
Takemichi is so impressed that he steps forward and punches Kisaki in the face. This angers the other members, as Takemichi is not part of Toman and not only interrupts the ceremony but disrespects Mikey's decision.
#3: When Kazutora accidentally kills Mikey's brother
Kazutora is one of the founding members of Toman. He is close to all the members, especially Baji. One year, for Mikey's birthday, Kazutora hatches a plan to steal a motorcycle and give it to Mikey, with Baji's help.
During the robbery, the owner of the motorcycle shop wakes up. Kazutora comes up from behind and punches the person in the head, knocking them to the ground and killing them. It turns out that the owner of the motorcycle shop is none other than Mikey's older brother, Shinichiro.
N°2: When Baji stabs himself to save Toman
During the Bloody Halloween Battle, Baji reveals his true intentions by joining Valhalla. Baji perceives Kisaki as a threat and joins Valhalla to learn more about him and his plans. He attacks Kisaki during the battle and plans to take him down.
However, Kazutora attacks Baji from behind and stabs him. As if anticipating the effect this event would have on Toman, Baji fatally stabs himself. By doing so, Baji frees Kazutora from having to kill him and also eliminates the reason Mikey wanted to kill Kazutora.
#1: When Chifuyu is killed in front of Takemichi
In the present, Takemichi is very successful and is the main leader of the Tokyo Manji Gang. He is escorted to a meeting where he is surrounded by familiar faces, including his old friends - and a few new ones. Kisaki shows up at the meeting and asks to speak to Takemichi and Chifuyu.
Over drinks, Kisaki admits to orchestrating the Bloody Halloween and ordering Kazutora to kill Baji. Shortly after, Takemichi and Chifuyu lose consciousness, and when they wake up, they are tied up. Under Kisaki's armed interrogation, Chifuyu admits to being a traitor to Toman and tells Takemichi that he was trying to clean up because they had lost their way. Kisaki then shoots Chifuyu and kills him.
Conclusion: no matter how much you like Tokyo Revengers, no one can say that this anime is not very violent because of the animation and the brutality of the story: here is an article proving it.
